My Second Overseas Adventure: Singapore (1986)

After the Philippines, I made my second overseas adventure -- this time when I travelled to Singapore (1986) with three friends via Johor Baharu. We were studying together in Shah Alam. During a semester break, we took the bus to my friend Azlan Hashim's hometown, Johor Baharu. As we were just next door to Singapore, we decided to take another bus to cross the causeway into Singapore.

In the Woodlands area, we got off the Malaysian bus and took a Singapore bus to the city. I remembered that the bus was coin operated (no human conductor, first time me seeing this!); I thought that was something very sophisticated back in 1986. I also remembered seeing a young athletic Singaporean man with his tennis racket boarded that same bus the same time we did. (He probably was heading for a tennis game somewhere.) That gave me a lasting impression how active and fit Singaporeans are.

Azlan, Azman (a Sarawakian), myself and another friend (I forgot his name) headed to the famous Orchard Road. We had a meal (at McDonald's) and visited several shopping malls. Bought a sunglass (Rayban) for Alex Jok (another Sarawakian friend).

We took the bus back to JB later that day.
